Ghostwheel
|
 |
 |
Ghostwheel is the artistic pseudonym of European-born, US-based producer / recording artist Dobo Radichkov. Ghostwheel sources musical inspiration from Depeche Mode’s world of dark electro-rock soundscapes and UK’s Britpop scene.
Ghostwheel’s music transcends reality to a place glorifying the beauty of melancholy ridden melodies driven by stark, yet layered atmospheres. Technological precision, ethereal instrumentation, experimental sampling, vulnerable vocals, and human imperfection catalyze a chemo-musical reaction best described as, well, ghostly.

Newborn

Newborn, Ghostwheel’s impending first release, is a collection of ten atypical Depeche Mode covers. The album was recorded during 2006-2007 and is released on Minor Key Records.
Ghostwheel describes his motives and vision:
“I’ve been repeatedly disillusioned by the lack of decent Depeche Mode covers out there. Certainly there are a few true gems hiding around, but most cover artists’ interpretations lack in production quality, good atmospheres, and most importantly – direction.
In my mind, the goal of Newborn is twofold: 1) to reinvigorate some of Depeche’s more obscure songs and 2) to reinvent some of their universal classics. In doing so, my focus lies on establishing direction and conceptual flow.”
It is not uncommon for cover artists to record Depeche Mode’s most obvious songs leaving little stylistic differentiation. This is in stark contrast with Ghostwheel’s beliefs that a cover song should reinterpret, not remake:
“I have little interest in recreating Depeche’s songs – I know there’s no way in hell I can make them better. Instead, I’ve chosen to record covers that are musically, stylistically, and technologically unique.”
