Alright, so here are the first sounds from Newborn! Smiley

This brief audio passage portrays several audio elements that are part of Newborn's verse structure. It starts off with a dense wall of sampled 'AAAAAAAH' voices. I recorded the samples and then sequenced them in Renoise, which is my main weapon of choice when it comes to programming sounds.

The voices are then joined by some clicky-sounding hihats, which (surprise!) were also sampled. This will sound really awkward, but the way I recorded the hihats was through scratching my work badge with a needle. Crazy, huh?! I'd say pure sampling in the Depeche Mode spirit... Wink Overall, Newborn is pervaded by weird samples - I think I must have sampled my whole apartment - kitchen, bedroom, and everything (unfortunately, not the bathroom - my microphone cable was too short!). But more on that in due time...

As the hihats kick in, you will also hear a bass line. Well, bass is an exaggeration, since I actually used a regular electric guitar to record it. What is interesting is that Newborn actually features two bass lines. One plays really low, in the 40-60 Hz range, while the other (the one in this clip) moves in the 80-200 Hz range.

Towards the end of the audio clip, a snare joins in, and you can kill me, but I can't remember how I sampled it. The file that I used is called 'rub.wav' so I must have rubbed something, but don't ask me what! Smiley The snare is melodic and it changes its pitch as the chord progression evolves.

The pulsating sound that accompanies the snare is simply some heavily compressed and flanged reverb tails.
