Practically speaking, Newborn is the album's first true recording and incidentally also its title track. To avoid confusion, I promise not to use the song's and album's titles in the same sentence. Smiley

I started Newborn (the song) in the end of May 2006 and it took me about a month to record most of its sounds (which will prove to be the pace all other songs would be recorded at). At that point, I wasn't quite sure where this whole project would go, so I was a bit cautious in building the song's production - I didn't want to overdo it, at least not in the beginning - it was my sandbox, so to speak.

Newborn is a particular favorite of mine and I hope my version will surprise you. Musically, I preserved the original melody and most of the chord structure, but stylistically and production-wise, my version is a radical departure from the original sound, which is quite upbeat and dense.

I don't think the sound of Newborn is reflective of the rest of the songs in the record. It is probably one of the more minimalist songs whose production is actually quite simple compared to subsequent tracks. I think the best way to describe it is as a transition from the sound of It's No Good to the sound of the rest of the album. Newborn is dreamy, cold, mellow and relaxing during the verses, and sharp, restless and noisy during the choruses. I shall leave it at this, and let you judge it from the upcoming sound clips...
