My friend,

Allow me to reveal the details behind the first song recorded for this Depeche Mode cover project: It's No Good.

You can read in my previous post about the motivation behind recording It's No Good. Here, I'd like to say a few words regarding the song itself.

Recorded during a whole different time frame and with a different mindset, It's No Good is probably the most unique song of the bunch that are going to end up on Newborn. The song was intended to be played live, so naturally, its instrumentation was recorded mostly in an impromptu setting, on the go. I employed an extremely minimalistic approach with this song, keeping the number of tracks to the bare minimum. The instrumentation is driven by a melodic creamy guitar line which drives the chord progressions and is truly the musical anchor of the recording. I wanted to create a feeling of restlessness, so I was intentionally not paying much attention to keeping a tight rhythm. As a consequence, you may notice that the song starts slowly and gradually picks up the tempo as it progresses.

My It's No Good cover has been available online for years now, and hence, it is also going to be available as an exclusive full download on Ghostborn.com. Note that the version provided here is a pre-mixing, pre-mastering raw mix and it will inevitably sound quite different on the final mastered copy of Newborn.

Enjoy!
